Julie-Anne Stanzak

was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up in New Orleans. She took ballet lessons and attended summer ballet workshops with famous dancers. She moved to Chicago in 1976 and danced with the Chicago Lyric Opera Ballet under the direction of Maria Tallchief from 1977 to 1979. She then travelled to Europe to audition for various companies. In Amsterdam, Rudi van Danzig engaged her for Het National Ballet, where she worked from 1979 to 1986.
She has been a permanent member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal since 1986 and has danced in more than 30 pieces by Pina Bausch. Julie Anne Stanzak now works with various dance and theatre institutions in Europe, the USA and Japan, teaching, creating pieces and working with people with physical and mental disabilities. She has been working regularly with Nathalie Larquet since 2019 and has danced in 5 of the French choreographer’s productions to date.
